Boyertown Midget Baseball League

Overview

BMBL offers Junior Division tryout-based teams for ages 8-12 in the Spring Season and age 12 in the Fall Season. These teams play at a more competitive level than non-tryout teams and, in some cases, have a longer season. See the League Overview page for a high-level overview of the different tryout-based teams available for different age groups, or the Program Information page for the age group of interest for more detail.

Spring Season tryouts for 8U occur in early spring while other age groups' Spring Season tryouts occur some time in the preceding fall. Fall Season tryouts occur in mid August.

Tryouts should not be confused with assessments. Assessment day is used for the Minors and Majors age groups in the Spring Season in an effort to create competitive balance across all rec teams and occurs on an earlier date than advanced play team tryouts for those age groups. All players registered to participate on a Minors or Majors rec team (including players planning to tryout for advanced play teams) should attend assessment day. The time commitment for assessment day is approximately 15 minutes. No players are cut from rec teams.

2025 Advanced Play Tryouts

BMBL will be holding tryouts for 2025 Spring Season Advanced Play teams in August/September 2024. The only exception is the 2025 8U Advanced Play team, who will hold their tryouts in the late winter/early spring of 2025, with registration opening in January.

12U Fall and Spring

This year, we will also be offering a 2024 Fall 12U Advanced Play team. A single tryout will be held for both the Fall 12U team and the Spring 12U teams (Black Bears and possible 12U-B). The Fall and Spring 12U teams are separate teams. Players can choose to tryout for both the Fall and Spring teams, or just the Spring teams. If you are trying out for the Fall team, please be sure to register through the 12U Fall Advanced Play Tryout Registration below. Players cut from the Fall team will be automatically placed on a Fall Rec team.

How tryouts work

Players interested in playing on one of the 2025 Advanced Play teams must register using one of the links below. The player's age on April 30, 2025 determines which team they are eligible to play on. We will also form B teams from these tryouts, as numbers allow. The 2025 Advanced Play registration is separate from in-town spring or fall ball - make sure you register for both!

Players and families should read the BMBL Travel Manifesto before trying out. It outlines the expectations for Advanced Play coaches, players, and parents. Please direct any questions to the tournament director.

You must tryout for the team you are eligible for only, NO PLAYING UP!!! So if you are 10U for the 2025 season then you tryout for 10U only. The only exception we allow is 7U players playing up on the 8U team.

Tryout dates will be posted here soon. Players must attend at least one of the two listed sessions for their age group. Registered players will receive an email the week before their tryout with their tryout timeslot.

There is no cost to tryout. Players selected for one of the Advanced Play teams will have to pay the TBD Advanced Play Fee by December 1, 2024.

Important note: Spectators are not permitted at tryouts. Players should be dropped off and picked up at the circle in front of Boyertown Community Pool. Players will be directed to the appropriate location for warm-ups, and tryouts will occur on Rohrbach and Lobaugh Fields.

Evaluation Criteria

Evaluators rate each player based on the following criteria. These ratings are used to compare players to one another when creating the advanced play team.
