League Overview

The Boyertown Midget Baseball League (BMBL) was formed in 1951 to provide and manage a cost effective, safe and enjoyable youth baseball program for boys and girls in the Boyertown School District. Our program teaches baseball fundamentals, respect, sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, leadership, and a competitive spirit, all of which will assist our youth in becoming responsible and productive adults.

We offer two seasons of baseball in BMBL. Our spring program enjoys the highest level of participation. Spring season practices begin in late March and games conclude in early June for the youngest age groups and late July for the oldest age groups. We also offer a fall program, where practices begin in late August and games conclude in late October. These two seasons have separate registrations and, in most cases, teams are re-formed for each new season.

Our league is divided into two divisions - a Junior Division for participants aged 5-12 years old and a Senior Division for participants aged 13-18 years old. Both divisions provide age-based competition groups that have a range of competition levels from recreational teams with no tryout required to advanced play teams with a participation tryout.

We also have a 4-year-old Intro to Baseball instructional program to teach baseball fundamentals to future players in a fun non-competitive environment.

Junior Division

Junior division recreational teams play against other in-town BMBL junior division teams. Junior division advanced play teams participate in local tournaments within a 30-60 minute drive from Boyertown, with the possibility of one or two out-of-the-area tournaments several hours away. The number of advanced play teams per age group is dependent on the number of qualifying participants.

The following graphic lists the age groupings within the Junior Division. Tee Ball is only offered in the Spring season. Spring Season advanced play B teams may be combined or eliminated if there is insufficient participation. Some advanced play age groups may not be offered in the Fall season.

Jr Division structure

BMBL follows the age cutoffs defined by Cal Ripken Baseball for both rec teams and advanced play teams in the Junior Division.

Spring Season - The player's age on April 30th of the current year determines their age group
Fall Season - The player's age on April 30th of the next year determines their age group

Examples:

Will turns 9 on March 3 of the current calendar year. Will is eligible to play on a Minors rec team and a 9U advanced play team in the Spring and a Minors rec team or a 10U advanced play team in the Fall season.

Jake turns 11 on May 2 of the current calendar year. Jake is eligible to play on a Minors rec team and a 10U advanced play team in the Spring season and a Majors rec team or an 11U advanced play team in the Fall season.

Senior Division

The Senior Division is divided into two separate programs - American Legion and Babe Ruth. In our area, the Legion baseball program tends to have the higher level of competition. Administration of the Legion program is split between two different organizations. BMBL administers the Junior Legion and Junior Legion Prep teams as well as the 17U Showcase team. Boyertown Area Youth Baseball LTD administers the Senior Legion team. The two organizations work together to make sure we are One Boyertown, as described below.

BMBL offers separate teams for the Legion and Babe Ruth programs in the Spring Season. Players can switch between programs from season to season, provided they meet tryout requirements, where applicable.

Boyertown has a rich tradition of baseball, perennially known to field competitive teams at every level. Like other successful programs, our success is a combination of a large talent pool and a cohesive and comprehensive development program that identifies and develops young talent while providing opportunities for late bloomers to develop and participate. The goal of Boyertown Baseball is to ensure that every player can play on a team that is appropriate for their talent level, to give them an opportunity to learn and love the game of baseball.

The Boyertown Midget Baseball League (BMBL) and the Boyertown Senior American Legion team have a long history of working together for the betterment of Boyertown baseball. The BMBL was formed in 1951 to provide a youth baseball program for younger kids, but also with the hope that developing that young talent would feed into the future success of the Senior Legion team. Today, the two organizations work together to run the Legion baseball program, with BMBL administering the Junior Legion, and Junior Legion Prep teams and Boyertown Area Youth Baseball LTD administering the 17U Showcase and Senior Legion teams. Coaches from both organizations work together to ensure a seamless baseball experience for players as they progress through the program. This player-focused collaboration helps each player to continue to get the coaching and development they need at each stage of their baseball journey.
