Participants between the ages of 13 through 18 play in the BMBL Senior Division. The Senior Division offers programs in both the Spring and Fall Season. All teams playing at this level compete on a major league-sized field, with 90 ft basepaths and 60 ft 6 in from the pitching rubber to home plate.
Senior Division Spring Season participants have two options - Junior Legion and Babe Ruth. The Junior Legion program is a tryout-based program for 13-16 year-olds and is active in the Spring Season. Junior Legion teams play in a local league and may participate in Junior Legion tournaments. Boyertown also has a Senior Legion team, but it is not affiliated with BMBL. Our league offers three Junior Legion teams. 13- and 14-year olds may participate in the Junior Legion Prep team, which is called the Bear Paws. 15- and 16-year olds may participate on one of our two Junior Legion teams - the Grizzlies and the Bear Cubs. Based on the tryout, some 13- and 14-year-olds may be offered an opportunity to play on Grizzlies or Bear Cubs. The Grizzlies draw from players who live within the geographic area associated with Boyertown Middle School East. The Bear Cubs draw from players who live within the geographic area associated with Boyertown Middle School West.
The Babe Ruth program is offered in the Spring Season for 13-18 year-olds and does not require a tryout to participate. These Babe Ruth teams participate in a local league. Our Babe Ruth program also includes a tryout-based option, called the Kodiaks, where teams may participate in local tournaments in addition to a local league. The number of tryout-based Babe Ruth teams per age group is dependent on the number of qualifying participants. Babe Ruth is divided into two age groups. Junior Babe Ruth is for participants that are 13-15 years old. Senior Babe Ruth is for participants that are 16-18 years old. Senior Babe Ruth teams are called Bruins.
BMBL offers Fall Season tryout and non-tryout teams for 13-18 year-olds. Tryout-based teams play in local tournaments on weekends throughout the fall. Non-tryout teams participate in a local Fall Ball league. The number of Fall Season teams and the age group combinations are dependent on participation levels.
The following graphic describes the age groupings for Legion-affiliated and Babe Ruth or Fall Season teams in the Senior Division.
BMBL follows different age cutoffs for the Senior Division, depending on if the player is on a Junior Legion-affiliated team or not. Junior Legion-affiliated teams follow the age cutoffs defined by Legion baseball. Babe Ruth teams follow the age cutoffs defined by Babe Ruth League.
Spring Season, Junior Legion-affiliated - The player's age on December 31st of the current year determines their age group
Spring Season, Babe Ruth - The player's age on April 30th of the current year determines their age group
Fall Season, Junior Legion prospects - The player's age on December 31st of the next year determines their age group
Fall Season, Babe Ruth - The player's age on April 30th of the next year determines their age group
- In the Spring season, players in the 13 and 14 year old age groups can try out for one of our Junior Legion teams (Bear Cubs or Grizzlies) and based on the tryout will either be assigned to one of the Junior Legion teams, the Junior Legion Prep team (Bear Paws), or a Babe Ruth team.
