12U-B wins Oley

The Boyertown 12U-B Advanced Play Team stormed through the Oley Tournament, emerging as champions after defeating host Oley 11-6 in the championship game.

The Bears opened pool play against Coventry. The game was never in doubt, as the Bears scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to an 18-3 romp. Stars on offense were Trevor C, who went 2-2 with four RBI and Jacob O, who went 2-3. The Bears pitching was also outstanding, with Shea H, Jaxson M, and Scotty W combining to hold Coventry to only 5 hits. Pool play game 2 was much the same, this time an 18-1 trouncing of Harleysville. Trevor C and Logan S teamed up on the hill to 1-hit Harleysville, striking out five. Shea H, Jaxson M, and Scotty W all had three hits for the Bears.

Boyertown entered the playoffs with a tremendous amount of momentum and faced pool play foe Harleysville in the first round. Unlike the pool play game where Boyertown dominated, the quarterfinal playoff game was a nail biting, back-and-forth affair. Harleysville got on the board first, scoring one run in the top of the first. The Bears responded in the bottom of the second, When Logan S manufactured a run by walking, stealing two bases, and then scoring on a steal of home, tying the game 1-1. Harleysville regained the lead in the top of the third, scoring three. The Bears were patient on offense, scoring runs in each of the next three innings to slowly chip away at the Harleysville lead. In the bottom of the third, they narrowed the deficit to 4-2 when Sam H hit a leadoff single, stole second, stole third, and then scored on a Jacob O single. The bottom of the fourth had a similar feel - this time, Silas P led off the inning with a single. Conor F joined him on the base paths via a hit-by-pitch, and both base runners stole bases to put them on second and third, in scoring position. Bryce F delivered a clutch double to score both Silas and Conor and tie the game 4-4. The bottom of the fifth started out a little slower. After two quick outs, Jaxson M was hit by a pitch and later advanced to third on a Jacob O single. Logan S challenged the Harleysville defense with a bunt, inducing an error by the pitcher and scoring Jaxson from third, in what turned out to be the winning run. Trevor C proceeded to strike out the side in the top of the sixth to clinch the 5-4 victory for the Bears and advance them to the finals. Jaxson M, Silas P, and Trevor M shared the pitching duties for the Bears, striking out eight Harleysville batters.

The finals pitted the Bears against host Oley in a game that featured both teams scoring in bunches. The Bears struck first in the bottom of the first inning with Trevor C reaching base on an error and scoring on a Jaxson M double. Jaxson scored on an error by the pitcher after stealing third, putting the Bears on top 2-0. Oley tied things up in the top of the second and then added three more in the top of the third to take a 5-2 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the third, the Bears offense got on track and tied the game 5-5. Trevor C started the rally with a single to right. Shea H joined him on the bases with a walk, and Jaxson M drove them both in with a 2-run single. Jacob O kept the rally going with a single of his own, scoring Jaxson. After a shutdown top of the fourth, the Bears offense got back to work in the bottom of the fourth. Silas P led off with a walk, stole second and third, and scored on a Frank H sacrifice fly. Three consecutive singles by Conor F, Scotty W, and Bryce F added another run, and Sam H added a third Bears run in the inning when he reached on error on a ground ball to third. Now holding an 8-5 lead, the confident Bears held Oley scoreless in the top of the fifth and then got back to work in the bottom of the fifth, this time starting things off with a Jaxson M double and RBI singles by Jacob O, Silas P, and Frank H to push the lead to 11-5. The six-run cushion turned out to be enough for the Bears, who held on to win 11-6 and take the championship. Jacob O and Jackson M were the stars on offense for the Bears in the championship game, both going 3-3, and combining for 5 RBI. The Bears used Jackson M, Trevor C, and closer Logan S on the mound in the championship game victory.
