The Boyertown 10U-B Advanced Play team ended their 2022 season with an exclamation point, sweeping their way through the field en route to the championship in the Boyertown Summer Showdown Tournament.
The Bears began the tournament with a 4-1 win over Hilltop in pool play game one. Rowan D led Boyertown hitters, going 2-2 with two RBI. Boyertown used the pitching trio of Landon D, Isaac P, and Trey D to one-hit Hilltop. Pool play game two was against Aston Valley, with the Bears winning a shootout 11-9. Logan B was the top hitter for the Bears, going 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
Boyertown entered the single elimination playoff as the top seed, and they lived up to that billing. Their first playoff game was a rematch against pool play opponent Aston Valley, winner of the play-in game against Plymouth. Aston Valley got on the board first, scoring one in the top of the first. Boyertown responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Landon D started things off when he reached on an error. Trey D followed with a single to put two on with nobody out. Logan B and Isaac P made Aston Valley pay be hitting back-to-back doubles to score three for the Bears. Aston Valley tied it up in the top of the third, but they were never able to take the lead. Boyertown retook the lead in the bottom of the inning when Logan B hit a leadoff single and scored on an Ike L RBI knock. With a tenuous 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the fourth, the Bears' bottom of the order rose to the challenge when the first four batters of the inning reached base safely (Greyson C single, Chris H single, Rowan D walk, and Logan H RBI walk). The Bears would go on to score three in the fourth and five in the fifth on the way to the 12-3 victory. Logan B and Greyson C each had three hits for Boyertown. All eleven Boyertown players safely reached base in the game. The Bears' pitching was equally dominant, with Logan B, Isaac P, and Trey D holding Aston Valley to four total hits while striking out seven.
The Bears faced Kimberton in the championship game and won decisively, 10-2. Kimberton got on the board first, scoring one in the top of the first. Boyertown tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the first when Trey D hit a one out double and Logan B scored him with a single to right. The Bears doubled that production in the bottom of the second. Declan M started the inning with a lead-off single, scoring on an error later in the inning, and Greyson C earned a one-out walk, scoring on a Chris H line drive single to center. After a scoreless top of the third, the Bears again doubled their run production from the previous inning, scoring four in their half of the third. Trey D and Logan B started the inning with two baserunners for the Bears when they both reached base on back-to-back Kimberton errors. Isaac P said "thank you very much" and hit a two-RBI triple to center. The scoring wasn't over. After a ground out, Declan M and Alexander K recorded back-to-back RBI knocks to put Boyertown up 7-1, and the rout was on. The Bears would total eleven hits in the game, while the outstanding pitching of Trey D, Ike L, and Isaac P held Kimberton to only two hits and struck out nine. Trey D and Declan M each had two hits for Boyertown.
