10U-B runner-up in Newtown

The Boyertown 10U-B Advanced Play team came up just short in the Newtown-Edgemont Little League Tournament, falling to Whitemarsh 7-3 in the championship game.

The Bears started the tournament off with a bang, downing Aston Valley 7-0 in the first of two pool play games. Boyertown pitchers Ike L, Isaac P, and Landon D combined to hold Aston Valley to three hits while striking out an impressive 10 batters. Chris H went 1-2 with 2 RBI to lead Boyertown hitters. Pool play game two against Hilltop was an exciting back-and-forth contest where the Bears eventually came out on top, 10-7. Isaac P led Boyertown hitters, going 2-2 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.

The Bears jumped out to an early lead in their semifinal playoff game against Springfield. After Boyertown starting pitcher Logan B worked a 1-2-3 top of the first, the Bears notched three consecutive one-out singles (Trey D, Logan B, and Isaac P) to score their first run. Logan B again worked a 1-2-3 frame in only nine pitches to quickly return the Bears offense to action. The offense didn't waste any time responding, with Alexander K and Rowan D reaching on a hit-by-pitch and walk. Both baserunners advanced into scoring position on a passed ball and then scored on a Landon D single. Smart baserunning advanced Landon to second on the throw, where he scored on a Trey D single to put the Bears up 4-0. Springfield clawed back a run in the top of the third, but the Bears would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth when Declan M dropped a bunt single and advanced to third on back-to-back Springfield errors. He would score two batters later on a passed ball to put Boyertown up 5-1. The two teams would go on to trade a run or two over the next inning and a half before Springfield suddenly hung a 5-spot in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 7. The Bears did not give up, with Ike L drawing a lead-off walk and advancing to second and third on successive passed balls. He scored to seal the victory on an exciting steal of home, with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Boyertown pitching (Logan B, Landon D, and Ike L) was again excellent, holding Springfield to three total hits and only one earned run. Trey D was the Bears' leading batter, going 3-3.

The Bears never found their rhythm in the championship game against Whitemarsh, falling behind 4-0 after three innings. Whitemarsh would add three more in the top of the fifth before Boyertown could get on the board. The resilient Bears would plate three of their own over the next two innings, but would run out of outs to complete the comeback. Landon D was a bright spot on offense, going 3-3 for the Bears.
