8U Second in Oley!

The 8U Advanced Play team played in their first ever tournament this weekend in Oley, falling just short of the championship in the title game.

The Bears opened pool play with solid 10-8 and 11-1 wins over Mifflin and Quakertown. In the Mifflin game, Boyertown pitching struck out a breathtaking 13 batters, recording all but two outs via the K. Chase Y, Lucas H, Owen H, and Mason N contributed to the strong mound effort. In game two, Mason P and Colin H combined to hold Quakertown to two hits in the victory.

The team continued to take care of business in the first two games of single elimination play Sunday afternoon. Game one saw Lucas H and Colin H combine to throw four innings of shutout baseball. Together, they only surrendered two hits while striking out eight and only walking one. Parker M, Ty G, Chase Y, and Owen H led the offensive charge, which resulted in a 10-0 win.

In game two, a rematch against Quakertown, Owen H and Ty G put on another masterful performance on the mound. They combined to throw a no-hitter while striking out eight and simply shutting the door on the opposition's chances. The bats really came to life as nine Bears drove in runs, including Jack S, Parker M, Colin H, Bradley L, Mason P, Ty G, Mason N, Chase Y, and Camden S. Ty, Mason N, and Camden each collected two hits in the 15-0 win that sent the team into the tournament championship.

The championship game featured a showdown with powerhouse Upper Providence, who scored a tournament high 38 runs in their first two games and allowed a tournament low five runs in those two games. The Bears were not intimidated by their opponent, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a Chase Y RBI groundout (Chase would also collect the only Bears hit in the championship game). Camden S, returned from an illness to combine with Chase Y to throw four quality innings on the mound, including striking out seven and walking none. Despite the team's strong effort, they fell just short of the first place finish, losing 4-1 in a well-fought battle.
