The Boyertown 9U Advanced Play team brought home more hardware, winning the Southern Lehigh Spartan Slam 9U tournament. After dropping the tournament opener, they won the rest of their games to take the championship.
Boyertown opened pool play against Plymouth and lost on a walk-off double in the bottom of the sixth. They bounced back in their second pool play game, beating Harleysville 7-4. Dylan N, Adam M, Carter P, and Brecken T all had 2 hits in game two, and the pitching trio of Bryce M, Dylan N, and Tyler D held Harleysville to four total hits, striking out eight.
The Bears won their first round playoff in convincing fashion, shutting out Hatfield-Towamencin 10-0. Boyertown jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first, when Hatfield-Towamencin walked the bases loaded and Otto K cashed in with a two-RBI double. The scoring continued with RBI singles by Trevor F, Carter P, and Brecken T. The Bears would add a run in the bottom of the third, followed by a decisive 4-run bottom of the fourth highlighted by a Dylan N 2-run homer. Tyler D doubled in the final two runs in the frame to earn the walk-off mercy rule finish. Carter P went 2-2 with 2 RBI and the pitching trio of Bryce M, Adam M, and Cole C held Hatfield-Towamencin to just two hits, striking out eight.
The semifinal playoff game was a rematch against pool play opponent Plymouth. Boyertown vanquished the demons of their earlier loss to them, winning the rematch with a decisive 8-0 two-hit shutout. The Bears got on the board early, scoring two in the bottom of the first when Bryce M drew a lead-off walk and Otto K singled to put two on and one out. Bryce would score on a wild pitch and Otto would score three pitches later on an RBI single by Trevor F. The scoring paused until Boyertown hung a crooked number in the top of the sixth, plating six runs. The Bears batted around in the frame, notching seven hits and three walks. Station-to-station offense was the name of the game, with the only extra base hit being a double by Dylan N. Tyler D and Trevor F led Boyertown hitters with two hits each. The pitching trio of Bryce M, Dylan N, and Tyler D stole the show with their dominant combined two-hitter, fanning nine Plymouth batters.
The championship game was against host Southern Lehigh. The game was an exciting back-and-forth affair, with Boyertown eventually coming out on top 4-3. The Bears scored first when Bryce M laid down a lead-off bunt single and scored on a triple by Dylan N. Southern Lehigh answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first and then took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third. Boyertown responded with a 2-run 2-out rally in the top of the fourth to pull ahead for good. Tyler D led off the inning with a line drive single up the middle. After two consecutive strikeouts, Brecken T worked a crucial walk to put two runners on with two out. Heads-up base running moved those two runners into scoring position just in time for Zane E to drive them in with a single to right to make it 3-2 Boyertown. The Bears added a crucial insurance run in the top of the fifth, thanks to an RBI double by Adam M. Tyler D and Zane E both had two hits for Boyertown in the championship game victory.
