Black Bears win Mifflin!

The Black Bears won the Mifflin Tournament in dominant fashion, racking up 80 total runs over five games, 10-running every opponent.

Their two pool play games were against Schuylkill Valley and Brandywine. Kaden G was the star on offense in both games. Against Schuylkill Valley, he went 3-3 with 2 HR and 3 RBI. Bobby Y went 2-2 with 2 RBI and a homer of his own. On the hill, Luke M and Cole W teamed up to hold Schuylkill Valley to 3 total hits in the 4-inning 13-1 victory. The second pool play game, against Brandywine, had a similar feel. In this game, Kaden G hit 4 homers, driving in an astounding 12 runs. He joined Shaun C and Roman K on the mound in holding Brandywine to 3 total hits in the 22-2 four-inning victory.

The Black Bears quarterfinal playoff opponent was Fleetwood. Fleetwood took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but that lead was quickly erased by a 7-run Boyertown bottom of the first. Boyertown took advantage of four errors in the first five batters to fuel the outburst. They would add 3 in the bottom of the second and 15 in the bottom of the third to notch the decisive 25-1 victory. Carter R, Drew M, and Shaun C all had three hits to lead Boyertown batters while Mason M and Drew M shared the pitching duties, striking out five over the 4-inning mercy rule-shortened game.

The semifinal game featured a rematch of pool play opponent Brandywine, with a similar outcome. Brandywine scored first, notching a run in the top of the first. The Black Bears answered in the bottom of the first when Bobby Y singled and Kaden G followed with yet another home run. Boyertown would add six in the bottom of the second on the way to a 12-2 rout. Kaden G, Roman K, and Luke M all had two hits to lead Boyertown batters.

The championship game was against Exeter, and Boyertown's offense didn't skip a beat. After Exeter scored one in the top of the first, Boyertown responded with a 7-run bottom of the first, where all 11 Boyertown batters came to the plate. Carter R and Mason M led off with singles and Bobby Y drove them in with a 3-run homer. The Black Bears would add six runs in the bottom of the second and five runs in the bottom of the third, featuring a 3-run dinger by Luke M. The top of the order was particularly good at setting the table, with Carter R and Mason M both going 3-3. The Black Bears cruised to the 18-7 victory in another 4-inning mercy rule-shortened contest to take the championship.
