10U wins Lower Perk!

The Boyertown 10U Bears started off their tournament season in explosive fashion, ten running four of their five opponents in the Lower Perk Memorial Day Tournament on the way to taking the championship! The Boyertown 9U Advanced Play team also won their division in the same tournament!

The Bears began tournament pool play with a 5-5 tie against Coventry Red. Declan K and Garrett G both went 2-2 at the plate in the contest. The team bounced back in pool play game 2, beating Upper Perk 12-2 in four innings. Liam M and Logan S each had a two hits for Boyertown while Hudson C and Collin P teamed up for a six-strikeout 1-hitter from the mound. The accelerator remained flat to the floor in pool play game 3, where the Bears beat host Lower Perk Black 14-1 in four innings. Garrett G and Jon C both enjoyed a 2-hit afternoon at the dish, while four Boyertown pitchers (Logan S, Liam M, Garrett G, and Isaac S) combined for a breathtaking nine strikeouts over only four innings.

The momentum built in the final two pool play games continued into the playoffs. How could they follow two ten-run victories? How about a 15-0 shutout one-hitter over Deep Run? The game started with five of the Bears first six batters reaching base, plating two to take an early 2-0 lead. They would add two more in the top of the second and five more in the top of the fourth, highlighted by a two-run line drive single to left off the bat of Hudson C. Six more runs in the top of the fifth completed the rout. Hudson C led the team at the plate, going 3-3 with 3 RBI and a walk. He also contributed to the combined one-hitter, along with Garrett G and Collin P.

The championship game featured a rematch of pool play game 1, against Coventry Red. The rematch was a much more lopsided affair, with the Bears winning 11-0 in five to secure the championship. Boyertown jumped out to an early big lead, plating six runs before Coventry even came to bat. They would add three in the top of the third and a game-clinching two more in the top of the fifth. Sam N had a big game for the Bears, going 3-3 with an RBI and two runs sored on offense and four 1-hit innings from the hill.

Interesting facts:
Lead-off Brendan S scored 10 times across the five games to lead Boyertown hitters.
Eagle-eyes Stephen B walked 8 times across the five games, tops for Bears players.
