The Black Bears were part of a 3-team Boyertown sweep at Cal Ripken Districts, beating Upper Perk 6-1 to earn the 2021 12U PA Cal Ripken League District 6 title.
The Black Bears started off the tournament with a decisive 21-1 four-inning blowout of Lehigh Valley. Cole N tossed a CG gem, holding Lehigh Valley to one hit while striking out 11. The Black Bears hitters were not to be outdone, with the team collecting 13 hits and 11 walks across the four innings of the game. The highlight of the game was a grand slam by Connor Houck in the top of the third. In all, four Boyertown hitters had 2 hit games, CJ C, Jameson Y, Jayden T, and Jake M.
Boyertown kept the accelerator pinned to the floor in their second round contest, cruising to a 14-4 victory over Souderton, again in four innings. In this game, it was Connor H and Tyler T's turn to deliver the shutdown pitching performance, holding Souderton to 1 hit. At the plate, Connor H reprised his game 1 homer with a 2-run homer in game 2. Jameson Y joined the slugfest, stroking his own round-tripper in the first. He went 2-3 for the game, driving in a game-high 3 RBI. The two homers were part of a team 10-hit effort in the victory.
The winner's bracket final was the tightest game of the tournament, with the Black Bears jumping out to an early 5-run lead through the first two innings. Quakertown rallied back, scoring two in the bottom of the third and adding a third run in the bottom of the third. Boyertown's Jameson Y came in to relieve starter Cole N and shut the door, delivering two 1-2-3 innings including striking out the side in the bottom of the sixth. Quakertown pitching gave Boyertown hitters their biggest test in the tournament to date, holding them to 4 hits. No matter, walks can also be productive, with 3 of the 8 walks by Boyertown batters coming around to score via timely Boyertown hits.
The championship game pitted the Black Bears against the winner of the loser's bracket, Upper Perk. Upper Perk jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first but Boyertown's powerful baseball machine shrugged and answered with a 3-run bottom of the frame and never looked back en route to a 6-1 victory. CJ C led Boyertown batters, going 2-3 with an RBI. Connor H and Jayden T delivered timely knocks of their own, each driving in a pair of runs. The story of the game was another dominant pitching performance by Black Bears pitchers, with Connor H and Tyler T combining to strike out a stunning 14 Upper Perk batters over six innings while holding the team to 3 hits.
