Fall Ball Team Stein took second place in the BSE Bucket Hat tournament this weekend.
The team went 2-0 in pool play on Saturday to earn the 4-seed going into the playoffs on Sunday. Boyertown pitchers struck out 8 in each of the pool play games and Gavin Slaughter went 3-3 with a double and triple in game 2.
In the playoffs, Boyertown handled Spitfire baseball in the first round, winning 9-3 behind an 11-hit offensive explosion. Slaughter and Aiden Myers each had a multi-hit game. On the mound Joey Stein went 5 1/3 innings, allowing 4 hits but no earned runs while striking out 5. Ryan Soffa entered in relief, recording the final two outs without allowing a hit or run. In round 2, Boyertown faced the 1-seed SJ Young Guns team, who had not allowed a run in pool play. Boyertown used a combination of solid pitching and timely hitting to cruise to an 8-2 victory. Ty Shoultes and Devin Hoelzle teamed up to hold SJ Young Guns to 4 total hits while striking out 5. Soffa went 2-3 at the plate with a double for Boyertown. The victory earned Boyertown a spot in the championship game, their third game of the day. Unfortunately, their winning streak was snapped by the Garden State Nationals, by a score of 8-2, resulting in the second-place outcome for the tournament.
