Black Bears win Districts!

Boyertown pulled off come from behind win to claim the District Championship.

The Boyertown Black Bears got an early lead, some timely hitting, and for the first time in awhile picked up a comeback, hard fought 6-5 win over Upper Perk to pick up the Cal Ripken District 6 Championship.

The Bears got off to a hot start in the top of the first inning, which no matter what the age group was the typical Boyertown inning. Mason M started off the inning with a single and stole second base. Bobby Y singled him home for the 1-0 lead, reached second on an error, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch. The Black Bears had a 2-0 lead before Upper Perk got to the plate.

Cole W, who started on the mound for the Black Bears, cruised thru the first two innings, getting out of the first inning throwing just 7 pitches. and giving up just a walk.

The Black Bears added a run in the third as Shaun C walked to lead off the inning and stole second base. Carter R hit a long fly ball to deep center field that bounced off the base of the fence. Shaun had to hold up at third. Mason M walked, and Boby Y picked up RBI number two when he drew a bases loaded walk to make it 3-0.

The Black Bears hit a road bump in the bottom half of the third as Upper Perk plated 4 runs to take a 4-3 lead as they got a 2 run single from Archie M. They also scored on a ground out and a a Cole G double. The Indians extended their lead with a RBI single in the bottom of the fourth from Ryan C, which made the score 5-3.

The Black Bears went to work in the top half of the fifth inning, finding themselves trailing after 4 innings for only the 5th time this year.

The Bears started the inning with a bunt single from JD H. Mason M laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached safely on an error advancing JD to third. Mason stole second, and that brought up Bobby Y, who singled, scoring JD. After two errors, Mason also scored and Bobby was standing on third base. He scored the Bears last run on a wild pitch.

The Bears got strong pitching on the mound from Cole W (2 IP, 2 K's), Kaden G, who picked up the win in relief, moving his season record to 9-2 (2 IP, 2 K's), and Bobby Y, who picked up his fifth save of the year.

The Bears also got strong defensive efforts from Roman K, Luke M, Drew M, and Jackson K.

Coach Matlack after the game said "I was proud of the effort by every member of the team tonight. They have worked hard all year and it paid off tonight."
