11U Wins Boyertown Tourney!

The Boyertown 11U Advanced Play Team won their home Battle of the Bats Tournament, completing a clean sweep of their competition to take the championship.

The Bears began pool play with an 8-2 win over Valley Heat. Austin B and Cole C teamed up on the mound to hurl a one-hitter for Boyertown, and Austin B, Connor W, and Cole C all had a multiple hits. Boyertown kept rolling in game two, downing Newtown Edgemont 13-5. The pitching duo of Alexander F and Liam H held Newtown-Edgemont to three total hits while Austin B, Ryan W, Sam S, and Liam H all had multiple hits.

The semifinal playoff game was against the Harleysville Hornets. After Boyertown starting pitcher Ryan W worked a 1-2-3 top of the first, the Bears took the early lead on an RBI double by Sam S. The score remained 1-0 until the top of the third when Harleysville tied things up. Boyertown responded in the bottom of the third by taking a 2-1 lead on a sac fly by Sam S. Back-and-forth the game went, with the Hornets again tying things up in the top of the fourth. Boyertown seemed to say "enough of the back-and forth" and hung a 5-spot on the Hornets in the bottom of the fourth. After a lead-off ground-out, the next four Bears batters walked, putting Boyertown up 3-2. The scoring continued, with two 2-run doubles by Austin B ad Ryan W. The lead now 7-2, Boyertown brought in Connor W to get the last six outs. And that's what he did, holding Harleysville scoreless over the final two innings to secure the victory.

The championship game was a rematch against pool play opponent Valley Heat. Boyertown again jumped out to the early lead, scoring two in the bottom of the second, thanks to a 2-run single by Owen B. The Bears doubled their production in the next frame, plating four to take a 6-0 lead. The big inning came thanks to singles by Ryan W, Sam S, and Will S, an Alexander F hit-by-pitch, and a triple by Owen B. The Heat narrowed the lead to 6-4 in the top of the fourth, but the Bears simply added a run in the bottom of the fourth and five insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach. Will S had a big game at the plate for the Bears, going 3-3 with a walk and 2 RBI. Sam S, Alexander F, Connor W, and Ryan W shared the pitching duties for the Bears, with Sam S holding the Heat to one hit over the first three innings of the game.
