Black Bears win Oley!

The Black Bears swept their way through the Oley Valley Youth League tournament, winning all four of their games to take the championship.

Boyertown started pool play with a 7-3 victory over cross-town rival Pine Forge. Bobby Y led the Black Bears on offense, going 2-3 with 2 runs scored. The pitching trio of Shaun C, Roman K, and Kaden G held Pine Forge to four hits. The Black Bears won pool play game two against Fleetwood  in a mercy rule-shortened four innings, 15-5. Bobby Y had two homers and Kaden G went 3-3 to lead Boyertown hitters. Carter R, Mason M, and Drew M handled the pitching duties, fanning six Fleetwood batters in the four-inning game.

The Black Bears faced Wilson in their first round playoff contest, winning 12-2. Boyertown struck first, plating three runs in the bottom of the first, bringing nine batters to the plate. They more than doubled that production in the bottom of the second, scoring seven. The Black Bears batted around in the inning, recording six singles and four walks. They would go on to tack on another run in each of the next two innings, with Cole W sealing the victory in the bottom of the fourth with a mercy rule walk-off double. Incredibly, all eleven Boyertown players reached base at some point in the game by either a hit or a walk. Bobby Y, Kaden G, and JD H all had two hits in the game and Roman K and Luke M teamed up on the mound to hold Wilson to three hits, striking out five

The championship game featured a rematch with pool play opponent Pine Forge (demonstrating the strength of Boyertown Baseball!). This time, the outcome was a 15-5 mercy rule-shortened win for the Black Bears. Pine Forge took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Black Bears roared back with three of their own in the bottom of the first, starting things off with three straight singles by Carter R, Mason M (RBI), and Bobby Y. Drew M would complete the scoring in the inning with an RBI single, scoring Luke M. Pine Forge battled back in the top of the second, taking a 4-3 lead, before the Black Bears hung a seven spot in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach. The Black Bears batted around in the inning, with eight players reaching base. Shaun C started the big inning with a lead-off walk, with Carter R joining him on the base paths two batters later with a walk of his own. Mason M and Bobby Y followed with a pair of singles, first tying the game and then taking a 6-4 lead. Kaden G followed with a 3-run dinger over the left field fence. Roman K completed the scoring in the big inning, singling and coming around to score on a ground ball error to short, hit by Drew M. The Black Bears would go on to score three runs in the bottom of the third and the final two runs in the bottom of the fourth, on a championship-clinching walk-off single by Shaun C. Bobby Y went 3-3 with four RBI to lead Black Bear batters in production, and Cole W and Kaden G shared pitching duties in the championship game victory. Like the playoff semifinal victory, all eleven Black Bears reached base at some point in the game by a hit or a walk.
