Black Bears win Boone tourney!

The Black Bears continued their hot streak, winning their fourth consecutive tournament, the Boone Dog Ring Summer Classic. They played a grueling four games on Sunday in 90+ degree weather and yet managed to 10-run their final three opponents en route to the title.

Boyertown faced Upper Providence and Vikings Baseball Club in their two pool play games. They beat Upper Providence 7-5 in their first game of the day, with Cole N going 2-2 with an RBI. Connor H and Jackson K teamed up for the pitching duties, striking out a combined 10 Upper Providence batters. Connor's 8 Ks in four innings set the tone for Boyertown pitching's K-fest that was to follow for the rest of the tournament. The Black Bears played Vikings Baseball Club in their second contest and won 14-3 in four innings, thanks to a Jayden T solo home run and TJ B and Jackson K each going 2-2. Jayden M got the pitching start for Boyertown, scattering two Vikings hits over three innings while striking out four.

The Black Bears faced Vikings Baseball again in their very next game, the tournament playoff semifinals. The results were near identical to the first meeting, with the Black Bears winning 13-1 in four innings. Cole N was the star of the game, delivering a masterful pitching performance despite the stifling late afternoon heat and humidity. He pitched all four innings, giving up only one hit and one run while striking out 12. That's right - every out was by strikeout. At the plate, he ended the game with a walk-off inside-the-park 3-run homer, putting Boyertown over the required 10 run early finish threshold. The Black Bears scored at least two runs in every inning. Tyler T went 3-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

If Boyertown was feeling fatigued entering their fourth game of the day, the final score doesn't show it. They again ten-runned their opponent, this time the Berks Bulls, by a score of 14-4. The Black Bears continued their previous recipe for success, scoring runs in every inning while shutting down their opponent at the plate. Tyler T got the pitching start, going three strong no-hit innings while striking out five. At the plate, he joined for other Black Bears who all went 2-3 (Connor H, Jameson Y, Cole N, Jayden T, and TJ B). Cole N and Jayden M led the Black Bears with 3 RBI apiece. Jayden M became the second Boyertown player named Jayden to walk off a game on the day, driving in the needed two runs with a 2-out line drive single to right.
