Boyertown Fall 12U fell just short of winning the Boyertown Battle of the Bats Tournament, losing 7-1 in the championship game to Central Perk and taking second place in the tournament.
Boyertown started the tournament with a bang on a gorgeous fall Friday evening under the lights, no-hitting the Coaldale Tigers. Boyertown pitchers Connor H and Jackson K teamed up to strike out 11 Coaldale batters and earn the no-no. The offense did their part, scoring six runs in the 6-0 victory. The dominant pitching continued in game 2 when Boyertown pitchers Tyler T and Jayden M hurled their own combined no-hitter against the Upper Providence Thunder. They struck out 9 Thunder batters in the effort, yielding only one run on the way to an 8-1 victory. Bobby Y hit a key 3 RBI double in the bottom of the second inning to give Boyertown the early lead. In their final pool play game, Boyertown lost a tough back-and-forth affair to eventual champion Central Perk 6-5. The pitching was strong on both sides, with Cole N and Jackson K holding CP to 3 hits and four CP pitchers holding Boyertown to 4 hits.
After a first-round playoff bye, Boyertown faced Audubon in the semifinals. Tyler T got the pitching start for Boyertown and tossed a complete game 2-hitter with 9 strikeouts against only 2 walks. Audubon pitching was also strong, holding Boyertown to 2 hits. Connor H was a key to the Boyertown victory, driving in two of their three runs.
The championship game was a rematch of the earlier pool play game against Central Perk. Boyertown came out on the short end despite outhitting CP 8-6. The difference was a 3-run third and a 4-run fifth for CP, while Boyertown's 8 hits were scattered over 6 innings. Cole N, Tyler T, and Jameson Y all had 2 hits to lead Boyertown.
