Today, Friday, June 5, our region took a major step toward the resumption of baseball by transitioning to the Yellow Phase of Gov Wolf's reopening plan. BMBL leadership has been meeting frequently so that we can be ready to play ball as soon as the Governor moves our area to the Green phase. We wanted to share our plans with you.
Most importantly, we want to take appropriate steps to maintain the safety of our players, coaches, umpires, and fans. We will be following the guidelines for playing baseball as published by the PA Department of Health and the CDC. We will be communicating those guidelines to all of our families as soon as they are available.
As per Gov Wolf's reopening plan, our league cannot resume baseball activities until we enter the Green Phase. We are hoping that the Governor will move our area to the Green Phase before the end of June. However, the Governor is permitting individuals and small groups to work out informally during the Yellow Phase. This is a great opportunity to get together with some friends you may not have seen for the past several months and throw a ball around. BMBL- organized baseball activities (the Spring/Summer season) will begin the weekend that Boyertown moves to the Green Phase. The season will conclude in August (see important dates below). We recognize that this date range is later than usual and some families may have vacations or other activities planned. BMBL will be as flexible as possible in accommodating these activities, so that your child has an opportunity to play baseball.
BMBL also intends to have our typical Fall Season starting in late August. The Fall Season registration will be opening soon.
Details for age groups:
Junior Division: As is the case in a typical Spring Season, all rec games will be in-town only, against other BMBL teams. There will be all usual age groups: T-Ball, Knee-High, Minors and Majors. Details for Advanced Play teams are still being worked out, and Advanced Play coaches will be communicating with their teams.
Senior Division / Junior Legion: BMBL intends to offer the Bear Cubs, Grizzlies, and Bear Paws teams. However, since PA Legion has cancelled their season, those teams will have to play in an independent league. The Cubs and Grizzlies will be playing in a Berks County independent league. For Bear Paws, we are looking for an independent league. Details will be published when they become available. All three of these teams will be holding tryouts the weekend that Boyertown moves to the Green Phase. More details will be provided as they are available.
Senior Division / Babe Ruth: BMBL expects to field Junior Babe Ruth and Senior Babe Ruth teams and are working to confirm league details. We will publish those details when they become available.
For those who have already registered for the Spring Season, we are asking each family to complete this Google form, where you can tell us if your child will participate in the Summer Season or not. If you choose not to participate, the form provides some options for you to choose from for your already-paid registration fee. For those that have not yet registered, we will be re-opening registration for 4 days after the Governor announces the area is moving to the Green Phase.
