12U-B wins Newtown-Edgemont

The Boyertown 12U-B Advanced Play Team completed a dominating run through the Newtown-Edgemont Little League 12U-B Summer Tournament, mercy-ruling 3 of their 5 opponents and outscoring all opponents by a combined 48-8 margin en route to the tournament championship!

The first two games of the tournament were used to determine the seeding for bracket play. Game one was against Aston Middletown, which Boyertown won easily 14-5. Trey D and Chris H led Boyertown hitters with a pair of hits each. The Bears used a pitch-by-committee approach with Trey D, Carter K, Michael L, and Logan B teaming up to strike out seven Aston Middletown batters. The second seeding game was against Norriton and was a pitching masterpiece, where four Boyertown pitchers hurled a combined no hitter in a dominating 11-0 victory. Logan B, Carter K, Landon D, and Michael L combined to strike out nine Marshals batters while only walking two. The offense did their part too, with Isaac P and Greyson C each recording a pair of hits and together scoring four of the Boyertown runs in the victory.

The first round of bracket play was against Media, and ended up being the closest contest of the tournament for the Bears. The game was very even throughout, with multiple times where one team would get ahead by a run or two only to have the other team tie it or go ahead by a run or two in their next at bats. The Bears took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second thanks to a leadoff walk by Chris H, a bunt single by Rowan D, and then a 2-run single by Logan B. Media would retake the lead 5-4 with a three-run top of the fourth, but the Bears again tied the game in the bottom of the 4th on another Logan B RBI single. The two teams managed a combined scoreless fifth inning before Media retook the lead with a run in the top of the sixth, setting up the dramatic finish in the bottom of the inning. Isaac P started the final frame with a hit-by-pitch and scored to tie the game when Chris H hit a grounder that was mishandled by the first baseman. After Chris H was thrown out at home on a Rowan D single, Logan B completed his strong performance with a ground ball walk-off RBI single up the middle to give Boyertown a 7-6 victory. Both Logan B and Landon D were perfect at the plate in the game, each going 3-3.

Emboldened by their clutch come-from-behind victory, the Bears would not surrender another run for the rest of the tournament.

The semifinal game of the tournament was against Lower Perk, a game the Bears won easily 10-0 in a mercy rule-shortened four innings. The third inning was the big inning for the Bears offense in this game. Levi M and Carter K started things off with back-to-back one-out walks. Greyson C drove in Levi with a swinging bunt single, and Carter followed him across the plate on an error by the first baseman on the play. The Bears were not finished. After Declan M was hit by a pitch to join Greyson on the base paths, Trey D plated both of them on a ball to right field that was mishandled by the right fielder. Isaac P drove him in with a double of his own, and then Chris H completed the scoring when he drove in Isaac with an RBI single to left . Not content with their commanding 6-0 lead, Boyertown would go on to score another three runs in the bottom of the fourth to end the game at 10-0. Every Boyertown player reached base during the game in a very balanced hitting attack. Logan B and Michael L shared the pitching duties for Boyertown, limiting Lower Perk to three hits and no walks while striking out five.

If it's even possible, the championship game against Kimberton was an even more dominant performance by the Bears. The pitching duo of Trey D and Logan B held Kimberton to one hit in a four-inning mercy rule-shortened 11-0 victory. The Bears offense was equally up to the task, scoring four runs in each of the first two innings to put the game out of reach right out of the gate. Greyson C got things started in the top of the first with a lead-off single on a hard-hit ground ball up the middle. After a pop out, Declan M resumed the attack with another single to put two on with only one out. Trey D doubled to score Greyson and advance Declan to third. After an Isaac P walk, Chris H drove in another run with a single of his own. Boyertown continued their station-to-station attack with a Rowan D bunt that was mishandled by the catcher, scoring Trey and giving the Bears a 3-0 lead. Logan B completed the scoring for the Bears in the frame, hitting an RBI ground out. The Bears would go on to add four more runs in the top of the second and three runs in the top of the fourth to set the stage for a mercy rule ending in the bottom of the inning. Trey D did his part on the mound, holding Kimberton scoreless in the bottom of the fourth to end the game. Declan M and Chris H led Boyertown hitters with a pair of hits each.
