10U wins Heatwave Classic!

The Boyertown 10U Advanced Play team went undefeated in the Big Show Heatwave Classic Tournament, Taking the championship by defeating 3Up 3Down 7-3 in the title game.

The Bears began the tournament with a pool play matchup against Viking Baseball Club. The game was a very close back-and-forth affair, with the Bears coming out on top 3-2. Bryce M led Bears hitters, going 2-3 with two runs scored. Their second pool play game was against Cage Academy, where they cruised to an 11-1 victory. Boyertown recorded 17 hits in the game, with Dylan N leading the way, going 3-3 with three RBI and a run scored. The pitching trio of Dylan N, Adam M, and Aidan O held Cage Academy to three total hits while striking out six.

Their pool play performance earned Boyertown the two seed and a bye into the Sunday playoff semifinals, where they would face the Malvern Mambas. Boyertown jumped out to an early lead, scoring four in the bottom of the first inning. They got off to a fast start, with the first three batters walking (Bryce M, Brecken T, and Tyler D). Bryce and Brecken both ended up scoring on separate passed balls to give the Bears an early 2-0 lead. Adam M followed by singling, and both he and Tyler D would score later in the inning on more errors by the Mambas. The Malvern pitching tightened up after this, and no one would score again until the top of the sixth inning when the Mambas would plate three to narrow the lead to 4-3. But Boyertown pitcher Tyler D came up big when it mattered, striking out the final batter with the tying run on second to win the game for the Bears. Smart base running was the key to the Bears victory, as they only managed two hits against the Mambas. The Bears had strong pitching themselves, with the pitchers Zane E, Dylan N, Aidan O, and Tyler D scattering four hits over six innings while striking out ten.

The championship game was a matchup against the top two seeds in the tournament, the two-seed Bears having to overcome one-seed 3Up 3Down to win the tournament. They did so in convincing fashion, never trailing in the game. The visiting Bears got on the board in the top of the first when Tyler D hit a two-out double and later scored on an Adam M single. Adam then scored on a Dylan N knock, and the Bears were on their way with a 2-0 lead. 3Up 3Down got a run back in the bottom of the first, but the Bears offense got back to work in the top of the second with another two runs. Cole C started the inning with a lead-off walk and was followed by back-to-back singles by Trevor F and Carter P to load the bases. Cole scored on a passed ball, and then the 3Up 3Down pitcher again loaded the bases by hitting Aidan O with a pitch. Two batters later, Bracken T worked a bases-loaded walk to score Trevor and put the Bears up 4-1. They would add another three runs in the top of the third when the first four batters successfully reached base (Adam M walk, Dylan N single, Otto K single, Lucas L walk). Two batters later, the onslaught continued with a Trevor F single and a Carter P single. Now the Bears were ahead with a comfortable 7-1 margin. 3Up 3Down would score two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but it was not enough and the Bears held on to take the championship 7-3. Four Bears hitters had two hits in the game - Adam M, Dylan N, Trevor F, and Carter P. Dylan N got the pitching start for the Bears, scattering four hits over three innings and yielding only one run. Bryce M and Tyler D came in and relief and kept the 3Up 3Down offense at bay to secure the championship game win.
